Lunch & Lit - Love
life |
Dr. Joseph Lowin
Course Description
This course examines a new trend in recent Israeli
fiction. The four Israeli novels in this series
were recently published in English translation.
They have common the themes of romance and its discontents,
the devastations wrought on an aging population,
and the continuation of the centrality of the Jewish
textual tradition in Israeli writing. How these
themes are woven together, by the individual novelists
and by the four novelists collectively, constitutes
the subject of this course.

Ulpana Akiva Comes to the
General Assembly in Philadelphia |
|
This year, in a creative response
to hard times, several Jewish communities around
the country are bringing Israeli merchants to their
neighborhoods to offer Israeli products for sale.
In the same spirit, NCHL is bringing
Israel's premier Hebrew Language School, Ulpan Akiva,
of Netanya, to this year's General Assembly in Philadelphia.
In this way, the UJC promotes Hebrew culture in
America while doing a good turn for the Israeli
economy.
