Description

A young Christian man is chosen by his African village to undertake a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, but what he finds there confounds his image of the holy city. Suspected of being an illegal worker, he is taken directly to prison, only to be rescued from deportation by a mysterious benefactor. James’ Journey raises questions about keeping the faith in the shadowy world of Israel’s undocumented laborers. Director: Ra’anan Alexandrowicz. Runtime: 90 min. (Hebrew with English subtitles.)

Stay the Night - AnAlternative Tikkun Leil Shavuot

You are invited to “Stay the Night” for an all-night cultural and educational voyage to celebrate the holiday of Shavuot. Traditionally, Shavuot is marked by an all night study of the Torah (Tikkun Leil Shavuot). But, this years’ Tikkun will be anything but traditional - it will be a night of cutting-edge, interdisciplinary study and performances led by distinguished educators and diverse artists from Israel and New York. From 10pm to 5am you will be able to choose from five simultaneous sessions of film, music and dance performances, or Bible, literature and philosophy workshops, under one roof. Film: Broken Wings (Knafayim Shuurot) (2002)

Description

When her husband dies, middle-aged nurse Daphne must work overtime in order to provide for her four children. Teenage daughter Maya is burdened with the job of looking after her younger sister and troubled brother. Yair, Maya’s sibling, offers little help as he ponders the meaning of his life. From these grim beginnings, first-time director-writer Nir Bergman fashions a heart-rending character study of a family deeply affected by a horrific accident. Runtime: 87 min.
